I’ve been toiling away on a new collaboration with artist James Olley. The figure is based on his painting “The Phone Call”. I sculpted, molded and casted, while James worked his magic with the paint. The dripping technique he uses makes each one an original.
The first 4 will be available through Unit 24 of London (UK) at their Fancy Gifts show (Dec. 12th-23rd) and 1 at the Hellada Art Center in Long Beach, CA (Dec. 8th-21st)
Edition Size: Min-5/Max-15
Tom of Blackgard was the last person I met at Fan Expo. I walked by his booth several times on the way to the bathroom, but he was never there. Luckily he came over to my booth and we were able to meet. He is originally from Ottawa, but luckily for us now resides in Toronto. He makes animated style knights and monsters and seems to be fairly prolific already. He has collaborated with a game developer to feature his characters in an iOS game called Krog. I hope we can get him out to the meet ups because I’d love to pick his brain.
One of the reasons that Fan Expo was so amazing for me was the people. Specifically the other Toronto based toy makers I met in Artist Alley!
First off is Elaine and Paolo of GreatBeard. They are pretty much in the same boat as me. Their company is just getting started, they make everything themselves, and their attention to quality and detail is incredible. Their website is pretty much fully operational as well which is making me jealous. Elaine has been great with spearheading some group projects and meet ups. Her passion is infectious. I didn’t think I could get even more excited about the future, but meeting them has done just that.
