I have reblogged some pictures of this project over the last couple weeks but haven’t really chimed in with an opinion.
The guys at the head of this project are Tucker and Wayne. They are both long time toy designers and are responsible for some of the most well balanced and creative toys of our generation. Their credits include Jurassic Park, Xevoz and G.I. Joe Sigma Six. I am not that familiar with Xevoz, but the other two are huge influences on the way I think about toys.
The toy industry is struggling. Due to production costs toys are getting smaller and less articulated. Original ideas and properties are disappearing because any risk of failure is seen as too great.
Tucker and Wayne clearly love toys. They want to continue to put their efforts towards creative, well designed, thoughtful, high quality and fun toys.
Their proposed line is a series of cultural heros from folklore around the world. They have turned to Kickstarter to fund this project. The first figure is Rama from the Ramayana, an Indian epic.
I adore this figure. It is done in a similar style and scale to the Sigma Six line. As soon as hold one of those figures in your hand you can tell it was built with care. The stylisation is at a perfect level to add flair to the design without dumbing down the heroism of the character.
They need our pledges to move forward with this. The momentum is slow right now, but there is still hope. Scroll down on my blog and check out the many images. Follow the links to the project page and donate some coin. For a $35 pledge you can get one of these figures and ensure their other designs will get produced too.
